Fall League

2016 Fall Ball Registration is CLOSED

NWD Fall Softball Information

Fall league provides an opportunity for the players to continue to play the sport they have enjoyed all summer long. This allows players moving to the next level of play the opportunity to learn and practice the new rules and skills of that level. We have found players who play the fall season are very well prepared for the summer season at the next level.

Fall League requires players to play at the level leading into the next summer season. Players that will play 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, or 18U ball next summer will play that level of ball in fall season. This is what gives the players a jump on learning their next level of play.

Below is information regarding fall league play.

League Information

Sanctioned through MMFL (Minnesota Metro Fast pitch League), however registration would occur through our league as a Northwest Diamonds Team.

Game Information

Double headers, 65 minutes each and played on Sunday's. There will be 3 regular season Sunday games and 2 Sunday’s allocated for qualifier and state games. Both of which could be Sat/Sun games. It depends on the number of registered teams each fall.

Regular season game times are scheduled to be played at 12:00, 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30pm on Sundays. Qualifier/State times TBD; plan to set aside the entire weekend for these games.

Game schedules will first be determined by ability of the teams and then by location. Game times are posted on website prior to each Sunday. (League try’s to match teams up by record for each Sunday played). Game schedules are NOT published in advance. Unlike the summer season, game schedules for all teams are published beginning of each week, typically by Tuesday.

Game locations will be around the entire metro area with some potential to play at YAC fields but not guaranteed. Need to plan on traveling around metro area for games.

Games are played rain or shine. Delay start of games due to rain is possible but must try to play games as there is no option to make games up on different days.

Umpires are provided by MMFL.

Uniform & registration information

Teams will consist of at least 9 players.

Northwest Diamonds will register all teams thru MMFL as a Northwest Diamonds Team. Player registration fee will include a jersey only. Shorts/pants and socks will be responsibility of each player.

Team formation

We will host evaluations for all Fall Ball players. Teams are NOT formed and registered as A/B/C in fall league. After we form our teams, we will advise the MMFL what level of skill our teams are at. This will be determined with discussion of the coaches for all teams. Each year may present different approach to forming teams, depends on skill and number of registered players.

Age divisions are as follows:

If you are 10 or younger on 12/31/16, then you can play U10.

If you are 12 or younger on 12/31/16, then you can play U12 or above.

If you are 14 or younger on 12/31/16, then you can play U14 or above.

If you are 16 or younger on 12/31/16, then you can play U16 or above.

If you are 18 or younger on 12/31/16 or graduate from High School in 2016, then you can play U18.

If you are 19 on 12/31/16, you will need to find a women’s league to play in.

League Rules

There is free substitution so your entire roster will bat during each game for the entire season. The league will provide a qualifier to determine what level of state tournament you will play. NAFA rules apply with a slight modification listed for free substitution and a 5 run per inning at 10U for the entire season while the 12U only during the 3 week league. Each team will roll the ball from home plate at the same time towards the pitching rubber.  The ball that is closer wins and that team will decide if they are home or away team for each game.
